A Message from the PSG Executive
The purpose of this site is to provide you with information regarding the various events, committees, fundraising programs, and activities sponsored by the PSG. We need your help! Please consider volunteering your services to support the PSG. Most of the volunteer activities require less than a few hours a month.
The objective of this organization shall be to enhance the education of our children by supporting the St. Mary’s School staff and to encourage open communication between parents, children, teachers, administrators, and community, as well as intellectual and social interaction.
The PSG meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 7:00 pm in the school staff room. Meetings last no longer than one hour and provide a forum to discuss upcoming events, results of previous events, new ideas to help support the school, and the current needs and wishes of the school. Please consider attending an upcoming meeting. We need your input and creativity to help us provide St Mary’s Elementary School with fun and innovative ways to involve students and their families with school activities.

The PSG (Parent Support Group) is a group of parents, grandparents, and others who volunteer their time in various activities to support the teachers and students of St Mary’s School. Everyone who has a child in St Mary’s is a member. There are no membership dues, only a willingness and availability to help out. There is a PSG Board made up of a Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, Gaming Representative, Volunteer Coordinator and Treasurer that oversee the various committees, facilitate meetings, disburse funds and provide communication and leadership. However, we rely on people like you to chair the various committees and volunteer to help where needed, as able.
Meetings are held the second Wednesday of every month in the St Mary’s School Staff room beginning at 7:00 pm. These meetings are open to all parents, teachers and administrative staff. Our meetings are discussion oriented and we encourage all to come with their ideas, concerns and questions. Additionally, the Board meets as needed for planning purposes, discussion of different strategies, ideas, and programs.
According to our Constitution, “The Parent Support Group (PSG) at St. Mary’s Catholic School is very supportive of the school and desirous of assisting Council in its role of overseeing the school operations as mandated by Catholic Independent Schools of the Diocese of Prince George (CISPGD). We remain united in the common goal of supporting a well-rounded Catholic Education at St. Mary’s Catholic School.”
The objective of this organization shall be to enhance the education of our children by supporting the St Mary’s School staff and to encourage open communication between parents, children, teachers, administrators, and community, as well as intellectual and social interaction. We are also responsible for coordinating the various fundraisers, activities and volunteers for a variety of programs. In addition, we are responsible for raising funds and disbursing those funds. We also sponsor several social activities throughout the school year.
There are a variety of fundraisers that the PSG sponsors throughout the school year.
We provide monies to a variety of projects.
Suggestions from parents, teachers and Administration are taken into consideration at our annual Budget Meeting. The Board will meet to discuss and vote. A majority vote among the Board is required on all Budget matters.
Board members serve for a two-year term in their current position, but may serve in another capacity within the Board after. If after the two-year term, no one is nominated or volunteers, the current Board member may serve for an additional time. If there is more than one person interested in a vacant position, a vote is taken at the AGM meeting of the school year. We strongly encourage any who may have an interest in serving on the board to please volunteer!
Please contact the PSG secretary for copies of meeting minutes.
